Legacy contract migration
Migrating legacy contracts into Navigator.
Moving contracts out of shared drives and legacy systems is where repository projects slip. The work is mostly organizational: getting the right people to decide what moves and what the data means. Our method runs in five phases with two loads, so most validation happens weeks before cutover.
01
Discover
Find every agreement: inboxes, shared drives, SharePoint, paper scans and the old repository or CLM. We review a sample early, because surprises found early cost the least.
02
Scope
Decide what goes in live, what is archived read-only, and what is discarded. That is a legal and records decision the business owns; migrating everything inflates cost without adding value.
03
Map and normalize
Agree the attributes and taxonomy, clean up duplicate counterparties and naming, and have the business sign off on every mapping.
04
Load and validate
A first full load, with extracted terms checked against the source documents by the people who know the contracts.
05
Cut over
A final load of agreements signed since the first one, then a period of close support.
Our professionals have delivered migrations from more than 15 legacy platforms, including SharePoint, iManage, Salesforce, Ariba and custom-built systems, and have run one of the largest eBilling data migrations in the industry.

Frequently asked questions
What is Docusign Navigator?
Docusign Navigator is the AI-powered agreement repository in Docusign IAM. It syncs completed eSignature agreements, takes bulk uploads of agreements signed elsewhere, extracts attributes such as parties, dates, amounts, contract type and renewal terms, and makes the portfolio searchable and reportable.
Is Docusign Navigator the same as Agreement Manager?
Yes. Docusign now lists Navigator as Agreement Manager, and its own documentation calls it Agreement Manager (formerly Navigator). Both names refer to the same AI-powered repository in Docusign IAM.
Can Docusign Navigator replace a CLM?
Sometimes. If your agreements are drafted elsewhere and the pain is finding them, their terms and their renewals, Navigator can be enough. If the pain is drafting, negotiating and approving contracts at volume, you need a CLM. Many departments that already run a CLM use Navigator for the executed estate, including agreements signed outside the CLM.
Can we load agreements signed outside Docusign into Navigator?
Yes, by bulk upload. Check the limits first: Docusign caps historical ingestion by license, files must be under 100 MB with names under 128 characters, and AI extraction supports English, French and German. Confirm the current limits with your Docusign account team.
How do you migrate legacy contracts into Docusign Navigator?
In five phases: discover every agreement, decide with the business what goes in live, what is archived and what is discarded, map and normalize the attributes with business sign-off, load and validate against the source documents, then cut over with a final load of anything signed since. Running two loads means most validation happens weeks before cutover.
Which Docusign IAM plans include Navigator?
All Docusign IAM tiers include Agreement Manager, the current name for Navigator. Docusign's plans page lists unlimited new documents plus 5,000 historical documents per user. Check the current allowance on Docusign's IAM plans page.
