Docusign IAM

Docusign IAM explained for legal teams: what it is and who needs it

Docusign IAM (Intelligent Agreement Management) is the Docusign platform that spans eSignature, an AI-powered agreement repository, workflow orchestration and contract lifecycle management. This page explains the parts, which legal departments need it, and how teams on an eSignature-only plan move to it. Swiftwater is a Docusign partner.

    Who needs it

    Who needs Docusign IAM.

    1. 01

      Executed agreements nobody can find

Signed contracts sit in inboxes and shared drives, and no one can report on their terms.

    2. 02

      Workflows that cross systems

Requests, approvals and filing move by hand between Salesforce, procurement and legal.

    3. 03

A plan renewal moving to IAM

Your eSignature renewal is being quoted as an IAM plan.

When CLM is the better fit: if the pain is drafting, negotiating and approving contracts at volume, start with Docusign CLM or another CLM instead.

    From eSignature to IAM

    Moving from an eSignature-only plan.

    1. 01

      Govern what you have

Consolidate accounts, templates and signature authority first.

    2. 02

      Load the repository

Bring executed agreements into Navigator, with the terms extracted.

    3. 03

      Build the first workflows

Start with one or two Maestro workflows the business already runs by hand.

    4. 04

      Connect the systems

Salesforce, ERP, your ELM and DMS.

    How we help

    How we help.

    1. 01

      IAM evaluation

Whether IAM, CLM or both fit the problem you actually have, before a plan renewal decides it for you.

    2. 02

      Migration path

A plan to move from an eSignature-only plan, starting with governance.

    3. 03

      Repository and workflows

Navigator repository design and Maestro workflows, built around how your legal team works.

    Frequently asked questions

    What does Docusign IAM include?

Docusign IAM includes eSignature; Navigator, an AI-powered repository that extracts data such as parties, dates, amounts and contract type from executed agreements (listed as Agreement Manager in Docusign's current menu); Maestro, no-code workflows for creating, signing and managing agreements (now listed as Workflow Builder); Iris, the AI engine behind extraction and review; App Center, which connects third-party systems; and Docusign CLM for the full contract lifecycle. Which parts a department gets depends on its plan.

    What is intelligent agreement management?

Intelligent agreement management is Docusign's name for managing agreements as data across their whole life: they are created, signed, stored and acted on in one platform, with AI extracting their terms and workflows moving them between systems. Docusign IAM is Docusign's platform for it.

What is the difference between Docusign IAM and eSignature?

Docusign eSignature sends, signs and tracks agreements. Docusign IAM is the platform around it: it adds the Navigator repository, Maestro workflows, the Iris AI engine, App Center integrations and, where licensed, Docusign CLM. If your agreements are signed but hard to find, report on or move between systems, IAM is the step beyond eSignature.

Are Navigator and Maestro the same as Agreement Manager and Workflow Builder?

Yes. Docusign's current menu lists Navigator as Agreement Manager and Maestro as Workflow Builder, and both sets of names appear in Docusign's materials. Navigator is the AI-powered agreement repository; Maestro is the no-code workflow builder.

Do we need IAM if we already have a CLM?

Often not the full platform. If your CLM already handles drafting, approvals and the repository, IAM adds less. Navigator can still help with executed agreements that live outside the CLM, and Maestro with workflows that cross systems. The answer depends on where your agreements live today, which is what an IAM evaluation maps.
