Case Study: Top Global Pharmaceutical

Opportunity

Following a multi-billion dollar acquisition, a top global pharmaceutical company, initiated the consolidation of their IP departments including the implementation of a single IAM system.

Our professionals were engaged to conduct a brief project review and provide recommendations to help the client as they struggled to finalize system design; and, were subsequently engaged to lead a global process harmonization initiative.

Assessed the current state

The assessment identified fragmented processes across global IP sites, and recommended the client first harmonize their patent processes before continuing with system design.

Harmonized the processes

Our professionals subsequently engaged to lead the global process harmonization effort. Multiple off-site and virtual workshops were conducted involving 40+ patent attorneys and paralegals across the globe.

Optimized the intellectual property lifecycle

Our professionals helped the client harmonize and optimize 19 (many with multiple sub-processes) different patent lifecycle process, identifying process owners and metrics.

Results

The processes were subsequently developed into detailed functional design specifications that were used to design the screens, workflows and reports in the system.

This lead to substantial savings in budget. It freed up the team’s time to focus on serving its business partners and advising them on strategic items in lieu managing a growing portfolio.
